✅ The 6 Key Categories When Buying a Trampoline (2025 Edition)

👋 A Personal Note Before You Buy
As someone who grew up on trampolines and now has five kids — including a 9-year-old who still jumps daily — I’ve lived the trampoline life from every angle.
Over the years, I’ve personally owned more than a dozen trampolines, from basic rounds to premium rectangles. In November 2024, we made the switch from a 10x17 AlleyOOP rectangle to a 12x17 Akrobat inground trampoline, and since then, our usage has skyrocketed. It fits our needs perfectly.
Even in my late 40s, I’m still out there jumping — not just because I love it, but because I believe it’s important to stay familiar with today’s products so I can give my customers the best, most informed advice. I often joke that most of my future customers haven’t even been born yet, but I plan to be ready for them.
People often ask me, “What’s the best trampoline?” Honestly, I don’t have just one favorite. I appreciate different brands for different reasons — because every family, yard, and set of needs is different.
That’s exactly why I created this guide — to help you confidently find the trampoline that’s right for your family.

🔹 1. Trampoline Shape
The shape you choose affects performance, safety, and how it fits in your yard.
  • Round – The most common and usually most affordable. Ideal for younger kids and casual use. Bounce is directed toward the center.
  • Rectangle – Found in gymnastics and trampoline parks. Offers higher, more controlled bounce. Ideal for athletes, but typically higher priced.
  • Square – A hybrid of round and rectangle. Bounce depends heavily on brand quality. Some squares sag in the middle over time.
  • Oval – Often just stretched versions of round trampolines. Tends to offer uneven bounce and less spring support.
  • Octagon – Bouncy and unique, but harder to find. A mix of rectangle energy with round spacing.
🧠 Pro Tip: Premium brands like Acon, AlleyOOP, Avyna, Berg, North, and Texas Trampolines mount their netting outside the frame, giving you more usable jumping space, a place for other kids to rest, and improved safety.

🔒 2. Safety & Longevity
Trampolines have come a long way in safety design. While they’ve historically had a bad rep, they’re not nearly as dangerous as many contact sports when used responsibly.
  • One jumper at a time is still the golden rule.
  • Cheap trampolines tend to become unsafe over time — not necessarily on day one.
  • Spend less than $400? Expect early wear, stretching mats, bent frames, and frayed nets.
🔩 Key materials to watch: Jump mat, springs, netting, padding, and foam sleeves over the poles.
💡 Reminder: Better brands often have multi-year warranties and real resale value.

📏 3. Trampoline Size
After shape, size is the next big decision. Most families end up saying: “I wish we’d gone bigger.”
Size is measured by the frame dimensions, not the jumping area:
  • Round = diameter (e.g., 14' Round)
  • Rectangle = length x width (e.g., 10' x 17')
🟢 Top Sizes We Install:
  • 10’ x 17’ Rectangle – Regulation size, great bounce
  • 9’ x 15’ Rectangle – Fits tighter spaces
  • 14’–15’ Round – Most common backyard option
  • 12’ Round – Great for younger kids or smaller yards
Again, outside-frame netting from higher-end brands can make a trampoline feel much larger and safer.

💰 4. Trampoline Budget
This can be the dealbreaker — but it doesn’t have to be.
  • Cheap ($200–$400): Limited lifespan, weaker materials, often imported to hit a price point.
  • Mid-range ($700–$1,200): Better materials, stronger frames, longer warranties, safer for long-term use.
  • Premium ($1,200+): Built to last for over a decade, often with excellent resale value and professional-grade bounce.
⛔ Common cheap brands: Skywalker, BouncePro, JumpPower, SportsPower, Zupapa, Jumpzylla, Propel, brands you cannot pronounce on Amazon
✅ Higher-end brands we recommend and carry:
Acon, Akrobat, AlleyOOP, Avyna, Berg, Capital Play, JumpSport, North, Springfree, Texas Trampolines, and more.

🛠️ 5. Installation Type
This category matters more than ever.
  • Above Ground – Most common, portable, typically easier to set up. Ability to anchor to the ground for wind & storm protection.
  • Inground – More seamless and safe for many families. No ladders, easier access, and more frequently used by all ages.
🧱 We offer full turn-key inground installs, including drainage, weed barrier, gravel, and custom leveling. We also sell the units if you have your own contractor.

🧠 6. Smart Buyer Tips (Modern Considerations)
  • Turf Integration – Many families now install turf around their trampoline for a clean, mud-free play area.
  • Drainage Planning – Inground trampolines should include water management. We install sump pumps to prevent pooling.
  • Rest Zones – Look for models with netting that allows safe “waiting spots” for siblings or friends.
  • Resale Value – A cheap trampoline loses value fast. A high-quality trampoline can be resold years later.
  • Aesthetics – Trampolines are becoming part of a yard’s design. Black frames, inground setups, and turf trim look polished and upscale.
  • Accessories – Consider LED lights, ladders, shade covers, and enclosure nets (some models include these, others don’t).
  • Warranty & Support – Brands like Acon, Akrobat, AlleyOOP, Avyna, Springfree, and North offer strong warranties and parts support — key for long-term peace of mind.

$300ish - Skywalker 15' Round Trampoline & Enclosure

The #1 Round Trampoline in America is the Skywalker 15' Round Trampoline & Enclosure. I'll begin with a product I don't even carry, so hopefully you can see this list is unbiased. I've provided an Amazon Link to purchase the trampoline. The reason behind the popularity of this unit, is mainly the cost. This is a highly mass produced unit. I would rate it above most all department store brands. The assembly is not as time consuming as many other brands. It is not super bouncy with the smaller springs that are used, and unfortunately the net only goes to the edge of the jumping surface, rendering the padding outside of the net useless other than the doorway entry. This is about a 13' jumping surface. Skywalker makes a 14' round and a 12' round as well. Their quality is less than their popular 15' model.

$600ish - Skywalker 9'x15' Rectangle Trampoline & Enclosure

The 9'x15' Rectangle unit is great for narrow yards, or those looking to get the least expensive rectangle. Skywalker also makes an 8'x14', but the 9'x15' is more popular in my findings. This unit will come in 3 large heavy boxes, and a lot of times these boxes receive damage in shipment, oftentimes leading to torn boxes, and potentially lost pieces. The assembly has a lot of nuts and bolts and drive most people nuts. Once completed in the presence of kids, I've gathered them complaining about the bounce being less than expected. Also, once again, the net only goes to the edge of the frame, so this is really about a 7'x12' jumping space, while making the padding useless other than the doorway entry.

$1899 - AlleyOOP 14' Variable Bounce Trampoline & Enclosure

This is the most popular round trampoline made by AlleyOOP. This is a high quality round trampoline with a description similar to the rectangle model above. Once again green frame with green padding matches any landscape. Same tough enclosure system and netting is found on all AlleyOOP units. The 14' round space is completely usable as the netting goes outside of the frame. These are heavy gauge units with open weave nets that allow the wind to travel through, making it less likely to take off in a storm. The bounce on these units is remarkable and all kids that get an AlleyOOP only have great things to say about the. AlleyOOP makes a PowerBounce option (extra layer of springs) for this trampoline as well in both the 12' and 14' round units.

$2449 - AlleyOOP 14' DoubleBounce Trampoline & Enclosure

This is the King Kong of round trampolines. This is the trampoline I personally have in my backyard. This is an extremely well made trampoline. All the best components are in use here. There are 2 jumping surfaces separated by about 8" of air cushion between them. This trampoline is very bouncy, and preferred by many YouTube trampoline enthusiasts! Recommended for active kids and teens. You will not find another trampoline like it, as it's very unique and patented. This trampoline excels on all trampoline safety tests. There is also a DoubleBounce PowerBounce option (2 jumping mats, extra layer of springs also) also available.

$2999 - AlleyOOP 10'x17' Rectangle Trampoline & Enclosure

AlleyOOP stands for quality at every corner. This is a massive rectangle trampoline and extremely bouncy. The green powder coated frame, and green padding look really nice in any yard. The springs are long and bouncy, and the enclosure system is second to none. The netting is very sturdy and overlaps at the doorway eliminating a zippered net that kids forget to close. The netting also goes outside of the frame allowing the kids to utilize the padding as a resting space and really opening up the total usable space rather than causing a claustrophobic effect. If you have kids that watch YouTube, they've definitely heard of this trampoline. There is also a PowerBounce (extra layer of springs) version of this unit as well.

$2399 - Springfree 13' Jumbo Square Trampoline & Enclosure

Springfree is a brand I'm often asked about. They spend a great amount of money on marketing, and really get their name out there to the consumers. I'm not fully onboard with Springfree units being worth their costs. These are expensive trampolines to simply have gotten rid of the springs out of the equation. They claim the springs cause the accidents, and I don't agree with that. Horse play and carelessness causes accidents. Keep in mind, most trampolines have the net go to where the jumping surface ends, eliminating contact with springs anyways. Getting past the marketing of these units, they are good quality materials being used. I don't feel as though these are as bouncy as good high end traditional trampolines, and you're also short changed on the bouncing space, as the net concaves inside (like an hour glass shape) eliminating the ability to comfortably jump on the edges. Once more than one child is inside of these units, they're always bouncing into one another without a resting spot. The manufacturer will warn against multiple kids at a time, and while that's a great idea, it almost always is a rule that gets broken once comfort sets in.
